Contact Lens Fitting Issues

Contact Lens Fitting is a necessary step that each contact wearer to be should take. Getting contacts is not just buying. Certainly you can go to your eye doctor and get a prescription. But prescription is meant for eyeglasses mainly, and don't include all the main points needed for proper contact lens fitting.

If you plan to go to your eye care practitioner's office tomorrow, the day after tomorrow or any time in the future and you have already decided to order contact lenses, inform your doctor about your intention. There is some extra test that she will have to do and some extra equipment will be also required.

The things that won't be determined in a standard prescription, still they are of the essence for correct contact lens fitting are as follows:

  • curvatures. Some eyes are too steep, while others are too flat. Wrongly chosen contacts can lead to the damage of cornea. This is a great contact lens danger. And doctors need to measure your eyes curvatures with a keratometer so that to prescribe the best contacts for you;
  • a tear film. It is should be evaluated, because the fact whether your eyes are too dry or too wet can influence your wearing contacts or eyeglasses. This is a sort of exaggeration, but there are a lot of lens types, and some will do better for dry eyes, while others won't. What is more, there are special solutions suggested for eye and contact moistening. And your eye care practitioner will advise you some;
  • schedule of contact wearing. Some people are happy to wear contacts with facing no problems, yet others feel uncomfortable, and can get lenses inserted for some time only. It is your doctor who will fix how long can you wear contacts without detriment to cornea.

All the above parameters are significant for contact lens fitting. Moreover, there are certain trial contacts meant for people who insert lenses for the first time. When a trial contact is put in an eye a doctor can examine it under a microscope, and add some another tip.

Remember that it is important to go to your eye care practitioner several times a year with your contacts inserted. Because contact lens fitting can require several stages.
